Dating safety
Last updated October 9, 2026
DateChi does not conduct criminal background checks or identity verification on its members. Profiles are written by members themselves. Use common sense and the precautions below when meeting anyone you met online.
Before you meet
- Keep conversations on DateChi until you feel comfortable. Don’t share your home address, workplace details, or financial information.
- Never send money or gift cards to someone you met online, no matter the reason.
- Look the person up if you like — a quick search can confirm they are who they say they are.
- Tell a friend where you’re going, who you’re meeting, and when you expect to be home.
On the date
- Meet in a busy public place. Every DateChi date is at a restaurant, bar, or café for this reason.
- Get yourself there and back. Don’t accept a ride from your date on a first meeting.
- Stay in control of your drink and your belongings, and keep your phone charged.
- Leave whenever you want to. You don’t owe anyone an explanation.
Using Live
- Live is for members 21 and older, because it takes you to bars. Bars check ID at the door; carry yours.
- Only people checked in at the same place can see you, and they see the place name, never your location. Check in hidden if you’d rather only be seen by people you like.
- You don’t have to talk to anyone. Liking someone isn’t a promise to meet, and nobody is told who liked them.
- Meeting someone you just matched with? Say hi where you are, in the open. Don’t leave with them on a first meeting; if it’s going well, plan a proper date in your chat afterwards.
- Bar and restaurant staff can help. Tell them if someone is bothering you.
- Tap Leave when you go, so you no longer show up there. You’re checked out automatically after a few hours, or if you walk away.
- Report or block anyone from their profile or match menu (•••). It hides you from each other straight away, in Live and everywhere else.
If something goes wrong
- If you are in danger, call 911.
- Report anyone who makes you uncomfortable using Report on their match page. Reporting immediately blocks them, and they are never told who reported them.
- You can block or unmatch anyone at any time.
